Crossroads Retail Show in Tampa: UPDATE

Crossroads has been postponed and the Shop Best Trick Contest on Saturday is also postponed. We'll have more details later. If you're here for the Show, you're welcome to come skate for free.

Here's an update from Jamie Thomas:

Hello Everyone,

Due to the plans made by several reps and brands, we are continuing with certain aspects of the show on a more informal basis.

The show venue, The Cuban Club, will be open for set up on Friday, August 27th at 8 am. The show times will remain Friday, August 27th 9 AM-5 PM. Booth space and placement will be available to all of those invited on a first come, first serve basis.

*Please note:

  • There will no longer be food served on the premises, so please make your own arrangements.
  • There will not be a mini ramp on site; Slash and Lizard will not be in attendance.
  • The Shop best trick contest is cancelled, but anyone attending the show will be able to skate the 'Skatepark of Tampa' on Saturday, August 28th for free.
Thank you all for your support and understanding and I personally apologize for the confusion.

Ryan Clements on Damn Am

Ryan Clements goes over a brief history of the Damn Am in this short interview. Damn Am started in 2001 when Brian Schaefer, Ryan Clements, and Rob Meronek wanted to take the style and vibe of an already strong Tampa Am event around the world. The first one was in Costa Mesa where a young Dylan Rieder won. In that same year, Dennis Busenitz was in 5th place. Both would go on to become two of today's top pros. From there, the strength of the Damn Am grew just as Tampa Am did. Other top pros that have competed in Damn Am over the years include Billy Marks who won Costa Mesa in 2002, Jon Goemann who won Costa Mesa in 2003, and Dylan Rieder who won Costa Mesa again in 2004. Dylan then went to Damn Am Minneapolis in 2005 and won that one, too. Before anyone know who Adam Dyet was, he was winning Damn Am Best Trick Contests back in 2005. His fellow Utah native, Lizard King, was right there with him skating Damn Am contests in 2005, too. The list goes on and on with today's new pros winning more recent Damn Am events like Scott Decenzo in 2007 at Costa Mesa and Luan Oliveira in 2009 at Costa Mesa. Aside from the placings and the careers born, the good times and great skating have led to lifelong friendships and many new friends along the way. Schaefer, Clements, and Meronek all met at skateboarding contests growing up and continue to see that happening to this day with each new generation of skateboarders. Come join us at Damn Am for a great time, ripping skating, high fives, and new and old friends from around the world.
